Hypnagogia || From French hypnagogique; The state just before one is fully asleep.
This series explores the transitional state between wakefulness and sleep and the musings of half-conscious mind. It also seeks to identify the moments of daydreaming, when one is not fully aware of the surroundings and the mind 'switches off' and goes into a dream-like state.
The idea for the image comes to me, when I'm out photographing, so I shoot with a specific outcome in mind, but I create the double exposure effect digitally in post production. The process is very intuitive and the blending of 2 images together (in fact it's the original image copied to a new layer, and usually enlarged and warped) creates this translucent effect, where the reality merges with dream.
